Disney Animation has released a series of new photos giving us a first look at their new short, Paperman. The film was made using a unique animation technique called “Meander” that blends CG and traditional animation. The short is being directed by John Kahrs, a former Pixar employee who also worked on the Disney film Tangled.

Here’s the synopsis:

Using a minimalist black-and-white style, the short follows the story of a lonely young man in mid-century New York City, whose destiny takes an unexpected turn after a chance meeting with a beautiful woman on his morning commute. Convinced the girl of his dreams is gone forever, he gets a second chance when he spots her in a skyscraper window across the avenue from his office. With only his heart, imagination and a stack of papers to get her attention, his efforts are no match for what the fates have in store for him. 

I’m a huge Disney fan, and love the old traditional animations as well as the more modern CG so I’m really looking forward to seeing how this turns out. From these first images it looks like it going to have a beautiful tone to it. Paperman is set to screen with Disney’s Wreck-it-Ralph early next year.
